How Many Wooden Knives Do You Need for Catering or an Event?

Box of 500 individually wrapped wooden knives for catering

Running short of cutlery during service is avoidable, but buying far more than you need ties up stock and storage space. A simple estimate helps you choose the right case quantity.

Start with expected covers

Use the number of meals, guests or takeaway orders you expect to serve. If every meal needs a knife, your starting quantity is one knife per cover.

Add a sensible buffer

For most events and catering jobs, add around 10% extra for damaged packaging, unexpected guests, staff use or last-minute demand. For example, 450 expected covers would mean planning for roughly 495 knives, so a 500-pack is a practical fit.

Think about repeat service

If you run a café, takeaway or hospitality business, estimate weekly usage rather than a single event. That makes it easier to decide whether one case or several cases gives you a useful stock buffer.

Why individually wrapped knives?

Individually wrapped utensils are convenient for counter service, takeaway bags, events and workplaces because each knife is already separated for distribution.
